Ramapo College of New Jersey seeks to provide a living environment welcoming to people of all gender identities, not limited by gender binarism. Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) provides students of the same, different, or multiple genders the opportunity to reside together in a shared living space, by mutual agreement, regardless of sex assigned at birth. The primary goal of GIH is to center the needs and comfort of LGBTQ+ (QT+) students, who often experience marginalization in standard housing arrangements. With GIH, Ramapo seeks to provide a safer, supportive, and affirming housing environment.
Participants must agree to the Gender Inclusive Housing Agreement, which requires GIH residents to maintain a welcoming living space free of discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. Residents will have a responsibility to develop and uphold standards for the living community, in congruence with valuing all persons and seeking to learn from their diverse experiences and perspectives. Participants must also adhere to all policies and procedures outlined by the Office of Residential Life.
